On this page we like to present some stories from the past and from today concerning the region of Uelsen and Surroundings. For the English-Language reader: We are sorry, but most of the stories are in German. Translating takes far too much time. Some stories are in Plattdeutsch (Low German) dialekt and thus are not really translatable. The following stories are available in English translation.
About the Emigrants
"Power was supplied by the Zentrale": A story told by Louis Hondebrink in the late 70ies about the power generation and the public bath at Uelsen.
"A life behind the counter". The Landhandel (rural store) Booimann at Itterbeck.
For the other stories (in German) please see the German page. We would very much appreciate support in translating. Perhaps you are a teacher for German in some English-Language country (or you know a teacher), what about having the class translating a story? We can do the final revise.
If anybody has some kind of story (in whatever language) that is somehow related to Uelsen, to the surrounding places or related to the County of Bentheim, please feel free and send it to us. We would like to include it here.
